I look at you I see myself;
I know that place in which you dwell
I lived there too, it is somewhere
in the region close to hell.

Child we are together and yet divided;

For I know what it is you need;
Just a small amount of love and
a hug when you are feeling alone;
Such small things to most;
They say they are close and always there;
But to you and I it is a far and distant coast;

Child we are together and yet divided;

I hear the voice I know that sound;
It starts out small and far away, then
draws closer to us and is now
so loud and profound; You have
given up hoping someone else can
hear the crying sound;

Child we are together and yet divided;

You look to her for comfort and love;
But there is nothing there; You look
for it desperately, as you know it is
suppose to be there; I know and understand
They say it does not go away;
But all you get instead is "Bad Girl"
and told to go and stay away.

Child we are together and yet divided;

Soon you believe what it is they say;
She wouldn't say it if it were not true;
Mothers don't lie! Do they?

Child we are together and yet divided;

Child I am here for you;
Please let me help on your quest;
I understand and I will do my best;
I know to you I am a stranger;
I do not want to take the place reserved
for her, but maybe help you through this
latest test.

Child we are together and yet divided;

I simply want to take you in my arms
and let you know that you are not alone;
I cannot undo the hurt nor take away the
pain; But starting today I can help you
to become the best that you can be.
Won't you please let me be your leaning cane.
I am reaching out with open heart and hands
I know we are divided, but won't you Please
come to me? For it is God who has put us here;
For us to help each other during this moment in
time of the trickling sands.
