Morally Dead Right
© 2001 Luis J. Orozco, II

September 11, 2001, found so many of us
unprepared that it must be addressed in as
many ways as possible, and as soon as possible.
Our President has stated that this was an “evil
and amoral act by its very definition,” and
indeed it seemed to define evil in every aspect
from our western point of view.

There can be no question that we as a nation,
as a people, and as individuals were
hurt very badly. But now after this short
period of mourning, we have a duty to rebound,
take charge, repair, and retaliate with all
the means at our disposal.

What exactly do we mean when we say, as our
president said, “...with all the means at
our disposal...”?

Do we really mean what we say, or are there
limits as to what we as an attacked people
can and/or are willing to do? Can we,
and are we willing to, truly use every
weapon at our disposal?

To answer these questions, we must define
the contents of our arsenal.
To do this, against a terrorist enemy,
we must first define his arsenal.

What weapons can and will they use against
us in the future? Suicide bombings?
Biological attacks? Chemical attacks?
Kidnappings of important people?
Kidnappings of entire sensitive groups
or communities? Stolen Atomic weapons?
"E" Bombs? Destruction of vital utilities
or oil pipelines? And finally, infestation
with computer viruses, disrupting not
only the American economy, but also that of
the entire world.
Yes, these and dozens more are all available to
them, and of course we now know they
would not hesitate to use them.

With this knowledge, can we afford to not use
any weapon at our disposal? Well, apparently
some feel there are limits to the weapons we
can/should use. Still others would have us
abandon any consideration of total victory.

This type of thinking is nothing new.
In recent history, it has been around at
least since Korea. When gripped by the
horror of having dropped the two Atomic bombs,
which decisively ended WWII, Mr. Truman
relieved General Douglas MacArthur for wanting
to use all the weapons at our disposal
(including Nationalist Chinese Troops) in order
to gain a clear victory and end the Korean War.

History has proven the good general right,
and our nation has been paying for Truman’s
blunder for over 50 years with no end to the
war in sight.

Again, during the Cuban Crisis we refused
to back the Bay of Pigs invasion.
We are still paying for that as well.
In the Vietnam War as in Korea, we again
would not use all the weapons at our disposal.
This policy earned our returning soldiers
the dubious honor of being spit upon, and
jeered, while we allowed the traitor Jane Fonda
to continue to earn millions, in the very
society she betrayed.

It seems we never learn our lessons, because,
once again, during the Gulf War our valiant
troops in the field were prohibited from
using many weapons in our arsenal.
In spite of this political handcuffing of
our troops they went on to smash the enemy so
completely that they shocked Washington into
fearing that we might actually completely win.
At the gates of Baghdad our “Commander in Chief”
ordered our great field general, over the good
general’s strong objections, and very much
against his will, to stop his troops and
abandon any idea of total victory.
As a result, the criminals lived to fight
another day,and so they did on September 11, 2001.

Perhaps we should learn from history for a change.
We must use all the weapons at our disposal,
and we must not deny total victory to
our generals. To do otherwise is to bequeath
disaster to our future generations.

One such weapon when fighting terrorists is
and should be, the use of covert assassins.
During the early years of WWII, the OSS used
them quite successfully.
It was only later in the war that they
discovered Hitler was in fact an Allied asset
in his disruption of the German heads of
Military, and decided not to assassinate him.

All this is nothing new in history.
In 1748 B.C.E., the Egyptian army was the
largest in the world, but it was made up
of only foot soldiers.
Their generals proposed the introduction
of horses and the use of cavalry in battle.
At the time, their economy was the envy of
all nations (just as ours is today).
The Pharaoh, their commander in chief,
listened to his priests, who, fearing that
the generals would become more powerful
than they, warned that it would be immoral
to use such weapons.
They went on to warn that the gods would
be displeased and ruin the economy if these
weapons (horses) were used.

The generals never got their horses, and 24
years later, in 1724 B.C.E., Egypt was invaded
and overrun by the Hyksos (Shepherd Kings),
who indeed had no qualms about using horses.
In fact they went one step further. For the
first time in recorded history, they introduced
armed cavalry in the form of war chariots.
Egypt, the greatest power of the day, fell to
the hands of simple Hebrew and Semitic tribesmen
only because they would not use all the weapons
at their disposal.

Again, in the year 143 B.C.E., Simon Maccabee
rebelled against the then-ruling Seleucid king
in Judea, and for a time he was victorious in
the field. Then, because his priests warned that
no one should take up arms on the Sabbath,
he did not. His enemies simply waited until
the pious Jews were on holiday to attack.

After realizing that only a few such attacks
without the Jews using their weapons would
soon wipe them out, Simon Maccabee discarded
his principles (and apparently his morals as well)
and began fighting back on the Sabbath as on any
other day. Once he decided to use all the
weapons at his disposal, he became victorious
once and for all.

There are many kinds of weapons, and in
68 C.E.,the Jews revolted against the
Roman rulers of Judea and they were
victorious, because they used all weapons
at their disposal, including hired assassins.
They took Jerusalem and held it until 70 C.E.
Then, when the invading Romans finally
overcame them, they retreated to the holy
grounds of their temple, where they refused
to bear arms against the Romans, who quickly
sent them to their maker by slitting their
moral throats. It is said that the blood bath
that followed, found Roman soldiers
slaughtering men, women, children, dogs,
cats, and all other living things for three
full days before taking those who were
left as slaves.

Before the city walls were breached, 1,000
Jews escaped and retreated to Herod’s old
fortress in the deep desert about 42 miles
south of Jerusalem. This fortress, called
“Masada,” was located atop a high mountain.
They defeated the small Roman contingent
there and remained in control of it
for three years.

According to Josephus, in 73 C.E., the
Romans finally breached the fortress walls
only to find that during the previous night,
all the Jewish warriors and their families
had committed suicide rather than be captured.

Here once again they (the Jews) were
victorious, because they used the one final
weapon at their disposal. Yes they died almost
to the last man, woman, and child, but until
today they are honored, when every new young
Israeli soldier must go there, and solemnly
swear on his sword that
“Masada will never fall again.”

Indeed history is replete with examples
of such blunders, and in most cases they
happen because someone wants to be a good
guy, fight a pious moral war, and perhaps
negotiate a settlement instead of a victory.
The lesson to be learned in each of these
historical events should be that today
we must fight fire with fire.
We must use every weapon at our disposal
and hold back nothing.
War against terrorists is not a game
where we have the option to use only
moral weapons. If hired assassins are
required, we dare not refuse their use,
because in the day we do, our enemies
will descend upon us and our innocent
families with all the wrath of their
immoral war chariots - those same
immoral war chariots which we refused
to use out of piety. Just how moral are we,
if we are willing to jeopardize the
safety if our loved ones for the lack
of total victory?

Unless we use every weapon at our
disposal when fighting terrorists,
we could end up being

“Morally Dead Right!!!”

God Bless America!!
